dinner tonight

A one skillet meal. Potatoes, peppers, onions, squash, zucchini, corn, chicken, and chorizo sausage, plus some fresh basil. Also toast, mine with tomatoes on top. Almost everything came from the farm. And the best part... lunch for tomorrow! This morning was busy with moving sheep. Afternoon nap in the rain. Evening rounds, milking, getting the sheep back into their fence, and harvesting some things from the garden. Also, we have three new baby yard chicks, and a teenage mother of a dairy cow. oh life on a farm.

dinner tonight

...was pork tenderloin, fries, stir fried green peppers, onions, squash, and zucchini, and fresh bread. Most of it came from market today. I have missed bread more than I could have imagined.

manic monday

It has been a very long Monday. It went something like this: Wake up Feed and water the turkeys Then the rabbits  Monday morning breakfast meeting Go pick up express mail from the post office Cut down a random tree in the yard Drive out to tend the laying hens Move the rabbit tractors Move and feed the little pigs  Then the big pigs  Set up the sheep move, water Water the turkeys again Throw together leftovers for lunch Clean up giant mess in the kitchen Bum money for gas from daniel Drive to Farmville to pay my lawyer Clean out rabbit cages Load up cattle panel for sheep fence  Play in the rain Milk iris the goat  Finish moving sheep Cook dinner and now we are here. nine days left until payday, and groceries. I forgot to take a picture of the meatloaf and baked potatoes we had tonight. But wait, I do have a picture of the chicken stir fry we had on Saturday. We enjoyed it.

wake up

Today was a better day. Despite wasting three hours driving to Richmond. On the way home from my useless journey I drove by the boat launch for the James River, which is only about ten minutes away from the farm, and on an impulse I stopped. I walked down to the water, and stood with my feet in the cool river. It felt very... rejuvenating, this whole day has. I feel like I've been living in a dream the last few days. Or a nightmare. Today I feel like I woke up.
