of Christmas and New Years Eve - here's to the next chapter

Zae likes our new quilt "Just because something needs to be said, doesn't necessarily mean that it needs to be heard." Trilli was very tuckered out after all the Christmas excitement (also, new couch cover for Christmas) Christmas was wonderful but also very challenging, and I wrote about it but I'm not sure that it needs to be shared. There are words running through my veins that need to spill out, but I am so hesitant to share too much information.. too much truth about my self, my past, my scars. At the same time, there's so much past inside my present ( feist ). Perhaps another day. plant explosion There was delicious food. Gifts. Family. Friends. It was truly a lovely day, until my grandmother's blood pressure dropped causing her to drift in and out of consciousness. Many tears were shed and while my mom and big sis went to the hospital with her the rest of us (my little sister, the guys, and my nieces and nephew) hugged and shared ...

I'm dreaming of a different kind of Christmas.

heirloom ballerina ornament - my very favorite Christmas is just a few days away!  It's always a stressful time of year,  but this year has been a real struggle for me.  Jonathan and me are both in the middle of changing jobs, which comes with it's own set of challenges trying not to get behind financially. We are doing okay, but there was no extra money to spend on gifts, and while our families are loving and supportive and insist that it's fine- it is very hard not to feel guilty when listening to the lists of everything they have bought. Society has made the holiday so materialized; tainted it with piles of stuff and wishlists and somehow the love of family and friends and being grateful for what we already have gets lost in the chaos. I see it most in kids, spoiled to the point of being upset because they were given the wrong version of a toy, the wrong barbie, the wrong game system, and throw a tantrum despite the Mount Everest size pile of expens...

things you've been missing

the view from the second story we were building onto the cob house I am so behind! The past few weeks have been so hectic, I just haven't had time to catch up. It doesn't help that my laptop will no longer pick up the internet, making it more difficult for me to update conveniently.  I just need to work out a new routine. Anyways, onto some of the things you've been missing! - We spent five days in Kentucky at Disputanta Cob, where we learned how to build a cob house from the ground up. It was an amazing trip, truly life changing for Jonathan and I. We feel so confident in our abilities to provide for our own construction needs now. I will go into more (much, much more) detail about the cob workshop in upcoming posts. - My baby sister, Amy celebrated a birthday. She has always been my best friend in the entire world, and we are closer now than ever before. We had a cookout at her house on her birthday with my parents, then on Saturday we went to dinner at a...

real birthday fun, it wasn't all bad

sisters are foreva I was so focused on losing the rabbits the other day that I didn't share more about the fun parts of the weekend. I failed to point out that yes, my birthday is on February 14, Valentine's Day. It's good and bad. I grew up hearing, "Oh, a Valentine's baby!" every time I had to give that information to someone. When I was younger (think middle school) I was home schooled and obviously didn't have a booming social life. I didn't have my first boyfriend until eighth grade. Back then I always felt my birthday was ruined by my loneliness. Once I reached high school I entered a steady relationship and haven't spent one birthday/valentines single since. Honestly, I could care less about Valentine's, it's my birthday, and that's that. Which is how we all felt hanging out Friday night. My sister's fiance had to work, so we went to his restaurant to eat dinner so she could see him. We love Deacon, he's a great ...

christmas part two

penny's christmas tree is overflowing After lunch at home with my family we headed over the mountain to visit Jonathan's parents and family. We are very fortunate to have two families who love us so much. Penny cooked breakfast for dinner instead of a normal feast (although a feast it still was) since we had a big lunch, and missed the usual early morning breakfast tradition of past years (we didn't do it this time since my sister was staying the night.) It was quite delicious and we had so much fun visiting everyone. His sister, Toni and her boyfriend and kids came over. Madi and Timmy are always cute and sweet and amazing. Watching them open the mountain of presents is always something else.  Jonathan and Penny Timothy wanted nothing to do with opening presents. He hid by the door the whole time. the kids mountain of presents I have the best mother in law evaaa :) Matt and Jonathan Until next time, Angela Kelly we wish you a merry...

a late christmas greeting

merry christmas sweetheart <3 I have been enjoying the season too much to spend time in front of the computer to share anything with you lately! It has been a wonderful Christmas. My sister, Amy and her fiance Deacon spent Christmas Eve night at our house, we watched movies and she fixed my hair. The next morning we all woke up together and opened presents over coffee. my granny with her new picture from local artist Ann Harrell. she cried when she opened it. daddy with the snazzy new mud Amy gave him Deacon and Amy - Christmas morning pre-makeup, she will surely murder me for this. mom's always the most excited my parents got Jonathan a Doctor Who book which is just phenomenal It was the quietest holiday we've ever had around here. Much of my dad's family couldn't make the drive. My sister was just getting over the flu and Christmas morning her husband was terribly sick, so her and...

traditions: the holiday season

Christmas brings up a roller coaster of different emotions for me. I love getting together with my family, near and far. I love the food! I love decorations and making things and having apple cider and peppermint bark. I love eating waaaay too much and sleeping for ages. I love focusing on what's really important, like each other. But I hate the materialism. Everyone spends so much time and energy and money on elaborate gifts, some thoughtful and sweet, others unnecessary and useless. I grew up in a family that overdid it for Christmas. We always had a huge pile of presents under the tree, even if it meant months of my dad working overtime, struggling to get caught up from the financial hole they had fallen into once again. I hate that we always receive so much more than we can give. I hate that I always seem to be broke during the holidays, which is probably because I work for tips, and mid-November through New Years is slow in every restaura...

thankful all year long

The holiday season is upon us. Thanksgiving was incredible this year, despite our family gathering being postponed to the weekend in order to include many important members (my dad and sister). This left us Thanksgiving day itself to visit Jonathan's family, and for the first time ever we enjoyed a holiday united as one. My mom and cousin Billy rode in with us, Dad and Wanda came over later in the evening for dinner, and Amy and Deacon stopped by as well. It really meant a  lot to us to have all of our family in one place on a holiday. We love you all so very much. I couldn't thank Mike and Penny enough for having us all.    I have been just awful at keeping up with the social media world as of late, time and energy being devoted instead to real life relationships and activities. This is all well and good, but I do miss sharing. And speaking of sharing- I feel that I have failed to share anything truly personal and meaning...
