Raising Rabbits: Rose's Six Week Kits

Rose was one of my favorite does from the beginning. Her soft brown fur and warm eyes just sucked me in. She's proved to be an excellent mother as well. One of her kits right now is black with blue eyes, and just precious. Until next time, Angela Kelly

a family reunion

a family reunion I failed to take my camera along last weekend when we were in town, and as a result, most of the photos are from my phone. Sorry for the terrible quality, everyone! Timothy likes cupcakes. uncle Jonny and Timmy on the playground me and Madi (pretending to be a puppy dog) The first stop on Sunday was Jonathan's family reunion at a park in Roanoke. There are so many people there, I am always trying to piece together names and faces. The weather was great and it was a really nice time. It's pretty cool how much one person can do. Jonathan's great grandmother had twelve children.  these are her children (the ones still with us) and these are her grandchildren and her great grandchildren and the great great grandchildren Whew. What a day. It was a lot of fun. Until next time, Angela Kelly Jonathan's sister Toni, with her kids Madi and Timmy

Raising Rabbits: Donna's Six Week Kits

Donna has been a great rabbit so far. She has large litters, and takes care of them well. It is a plus that of all our rabbits, she is the best breed for meat production. There is one little one that has always come to the front of the cage to say hello since it opened it eyes. I hope it's a girl, I would love to use our first baby to expand our colony of does. Until next time, Angela Kelly

ducks in the woods

We moved the ducks yesterday. They always love getting fresh grass, leaves and dirt to peck through. Penny sent us a new kiddie pool.  We can't really level it up, but they still love it. I have been searching for some more duckies to add to the flock, but so far I haven't had any luck, except for ducklings. Maybe after the cob workshop. Until next time, Angela Kelly

planting seeds

We spent most of the weekend in town, celebrating Easter with our friends and family. I tried to make up for lost time today. Cleaned the house, caught up laundry, we moved the ducks, and I planted a bunch of seeds for the garden. Tonight we fixed the pull-cord on the tiller, we are making progress! Until next time, Angela Kelly

spring has sprung

a dirty yard  We accomplished a lot this weekend! An unexpected task we did was put several loads of dirt on the front yard, to fill in the bare spots where grass won't grow. Now we just need to get some grass seed! We might have a pretty yard this summer. Jonathan's new doc martens plants are coming to life the garden to be the logs to be inoculated for mushrooms I just love the pear tree It looks like a storm is coming... Until next time, Angela Kelly

spring animal update

shy babies peeking out from behind the nest box  It was such a gorgeous weekend, and we accomplished quite a bit around the farm.  We are up to twenty one baby rabbits now! The first litters are growing so fast. Jonathan's mom Penny sent us two new kiddie pools,  the ducks are in heaven again. Amy, our newest mom ducky ducks the friendlies new baby, he/she always comes out to say hello Trilli does't understand why the yard is covered in dirt Back to the grind tomorrow. Until next time, Angela Kelly

lucky for me

beautiful day Dakota doing a little stretch  I've been thinking and discussing simplicity rather frequently this week.  The importance of time with friends and family, living closer to nature, not wanting for so much stuff.  It sounds kind of lame, but in the two years since we left for the farm  our mentalities on these things has changed drastically.  Of course I still want nice things sometimes,  and we still splurge and treat ourselves to things we definitely don't need occasionally.  But for the most part, all of our money goes to the essentials, gas and animal food, then farm stuff, there's not much left over for movies, going to the mall, hanging out at bars, or other things most people do. Lucky for me, I found out how much happier I am without them.  Trilli my gorgeous girl ducks Erowyn is always on red alert. She's a very nervous cat. Foxy Roxy  Until next time, Angela Kelly

going the extra mile for friendship

two guys and a dog Justin and Jonathan  I fixed up these pictures and then never shared! Last Monday we went the extra mile driving around to hang out with one of Jonathan's long time friends, Justin. He is also the fiance of my often talked about best friend, Savannah. Since Justin works all the time, and usually at night we when we visit, they don't get to see each other very much. It was good for them to hang out and have some guy time. Living out here is amazing for us, it is truly our paradise, but being so far away from town, friends and family, it makes things difficult. You really have to put in the effort to see the people you care about. tree climbing Justin and Zae bug  Until next time, Angela Kelly enjoying the sunshine
