things you've been missing

the view from the second story we were building onto the cob house I am so behind! The past few weeks have been so hectic, I just haven't had time to catch up. It doesn't help that my laptop will no longer pick up the internet, making it more difficult for me to update conveniently.  I just need to work out a new routine. Anyways, onto some of the things you've been missing! - We spent five days in Kentucky at Disputanta Cob, where we learned how to build a cob house from the ground up. It was an amazing trip, truly life changing for Jonathan and I. We feel so confident in our abilities to provide for our own construction needs now. I will go into more (much, much more) detail about the cob workshop in upcoming posts. - My baby sister, Amy celebrated a birthday. She has always been my best friend in the entire world, and we are closer now than ever before. We had a cookout at her house on her birthday with my parents, then on Saturday we went to dinner at a...

easter part two

cheers! The second half of our Easter Sunday involved a cookout lunch  at my sisters beautiful house in Salem, followed by visiting with our bestie Savannah. It was an amazing night. I have the greatest friends. Deacon and Amy my sweetheart happy happy day my sister Amy is my best friend in the universe Savannah is quickly becoming one of my friends too, and it's been a long, long time since I could say I had one :) Until next time, Angela Kelly  loves. forever and ever.

spring has sprung

a dirty yard  We accomplished a lot this weekend! An unexpected task we did was put several loads of dirt on the front yard, to fill in the bare spots where grass won't grow. Now we just need to get some grass seed! We might have a pretty yard this summer. Jonathan's new doc martens plants are coming to life the garden to be the logs to be inoculated for mushrooms I just love the pear tree It looks like a storm is coming... Until next time, Angela Kelly

lucky for me

beautiful day Dakota doing a little stretch  I've been thinking and discussing simplicity rather frequently this week.  The importance of time with friends and family, living closer to nature, not wanting for so much stuff.  It sounds kind of lame, but in the two years since we left for the farm  our mentalities on these things has changed drastically.  Of course I still want nice things sometimes,  and we still splurge and treat ourselves to things we definitely don't need occasionally.  But for the most part, all of our money goes to the essentials, gas and animal food, then farm stuff, there's not much left over for movies, going to the mall, hanging out at bars, or other things most people do. Lucky for me, I found out how much happier I am without them.  Trilli my gorgeous girl ducks Erowyn is always on red alert. She's a very nervous cat. Foxy Roxy  Until next time, Angela Kelly

going the extra mile for friendship

two guys and a dog Justin and Jonathan  I fixed up these pictures and then never shared! Last Monday we went the extra mile driving around to hang out with one of Jonathan's long time friends, Justin. He is also the fiance of my often talked about best friend, Savannah. Since Justin works all the time, and usually at night we when we visit, they don't get to see each other very much. It was good for them to hang out and have some guy time. Living out here is amazing for us, it is truly our paradise, but being so far away from town, friends and family, it makes things difficult. You really have to put in the effort to see the people you care about. tree climbing Justin and Zae bug  Until next time, Angela Kelly enjoying the sunshine

Local Music: Jackal Tickets

The Jackal Tickets are a Roanoke band we have been supporting and rocking out too for years now. Their punk rock ska mix is the perfect balance for a great dance show, we always have so much fun. I mentioned in a past post that Troy is also special to me and my sister personally, because he was in uniform folding the flag and presenting it to my grandmother at my pawpaw's funeral, which meant so much to my family. Troy- Bass/Vocals - Bottom Right Scott Late- Guitar/Vocals - Top Right Willett- Drums - Top Left Reynolds- Trombone/Vocals - Bottom Left Mike- Saxophone/Vocals - Bottom Left They had a full house at Martin's downtown Saturday night for this show. The dance floor, bar, and tables were all full. The other bands, Fun Size and Monster Atlantic tore up the stage as well, but unfortunately we didn't catch them in the midst of our crazy show hopping! Maybe next time, guys!   We had a g...

Local Music: After Action Review

The last local band we saw on Saturday night was After Action Review,  from the star city of course, and they rocked our socks off.   Mike on drums and vocals (side note, he was in the band back at my very first shows)   above left is Justin on guitar below is Steven  rocking the mic  I have to say, of all the bands of the evening, they had the crowd going with the best energy,  despite the bouncers trying at every turn to simmer down the action.  From the start of the show they announced, "no dancing!"  The room sounded with laughter and jeers, jokes about Footloose, and other fun filled rebellion.    we have TC on guitar and vocals on the left to the right is Robbo on bass Four times during their set the bouncer came through the crowd  to st...
