puppy play date

Yesterday Trilli got to have a puppy play date with her best friend, Oreo, and a new boyfriend, Yeti. Everyone in our group has a dog or two, so socializing them is essential. With several large breeds covered in our pack, they can be a bit much at first. Oreo (the pit bull) is quick like lighting, nudging the others with her nose and batting her paws. Trilli (husky and lab) loves to play but has the biggest mouth, constantly barking. We're working on that. Yeti is a basset hound and great Pyrenees mix, still growing and just beautiful. He got along with the girls wonderfully, outside taking turns pouncing on each of them. It's great to watch a pack of dogs together, it's so natural for them, their own kind; friends.  Hopefully next time I'll remember to bring my camera! Until next time, Angela Kelly

the pack: a temporary little addition

Trilli didn't want to pose for a picture.  Yesterday morning we woke up to a dusting of snow covering the ground.  Just a little bit, light and beautiful.  Our pack has an extra member for awhile,  my grandmother's Chihuahua Baby.  She is in the hospital after a fall left her bruised and sore,  with underlying problems yet to be determined.  We love her so very much and are sending all our good thoughts  and prayers that she recovers quickly.  Her little Baby is in good hands though, we just love having her.  Baby in her little jacket :)  Trilli is obviously jealous, but adjusting to her presence.  The cats seem disinterested, being twice her size at least!  I've never cared for small dogs much, but she is just such a sweetheart.  Everyone please keep my granny in your thoughts this week!  Until next time, Angela Kelly the pack

the healing power of puppies

I have been fascinated with therapy dogs for awhile now,  reading articles about dogs comforting the sick, elderly, confused.  Dogs have an amazing connection with humans,  an ability to communicate in a different way, on a different level.  Last night our friend, Zack, came over and Trilli  must have been able to tell that he didn't feel very well. She doesn't usually lay on people she isn't really close to,  but she crawled right over him and rested her head on his leg.  He said that he had felt like someone was sitting on his chest - not referring to the (too-big-to-be) lap dog.  After petting her for several minutes,  while she was sitting still and sweet,  he said he was feeling so much better.  I just love dogs. life with animals- our cats and dogs welcome spring

Bandit catching some sun  The animals are loving this warm sunny weather. Walking around outside is an adventure, watching them run about, mingle with each other, play and climb and chase things. Life without animals would be very boring. the pups hanging out in the yard Trilli (left) and Dakota (right) in the yard Dakota bear is a very handsome dog Do you have any animals that keep your life interesting? snow days in march

Dakota is watching us from the hill. Zae is being a big baby. pretty snow snow snow snow snow ducks :) They are going to love their new pool, as soon as it warms up!  I am very much ready for winter to be over, but I have to admit it's a beautiful snow day.  It's still coming down pretty hard here, who knows how much we will end up with.  I'm glad it came on a Monday, when we were already off work and home for the day.  I have lots of lists and projects inside that need to be worked on, now to decide where to start... Until next time, Angela Kelly

calm before the storm

home :) i love this mountain Bandit, the best farm dog.  It was beautiful today before the rain set in.  Even when it was raining, it was so warm, it felt nice. Refreshing.   I still haven't been feeling very good,  so I didn't enjoy it as much as I wish I had. Thankfully I still have tomorrow, and with a storm coming,  hopefully I can rest up before the work week starts.  I hope you enjoyed the nice day too! Until next time, Angela Kelly

a dog by his own means

My parents adopted Dakota when I left for college. He is part chow, and has the temperament to prove it. He can be the sweetest thing, when he wants to. If he doesn't feel like getting your attention, you better leave him alone. It's obvious that he is my dad's dog, I think. The other day when Dad was working on the rabbit cages with me, Dakota layed down beside us. He usually doesn't even come down the hill when I am at the rabbits, let alone lay down with them! It is funny how animals work. I love watching it. Until next time, Angela Kelly

hello bandit

Bandit is a smart dog.  He has been making very short trips outside these last few days.  It's too cold even for the pups. Until next time, Angela Kelly

Trilli - a mystery

This is a post I wrote a few weeks ago about our dog, Trilli. my beautiful mystery About six months after Jonathan and I got back together we started talking about adopting a puppy. We already had a cat we had adopted as a kitten and raised, he was about 5 months old then. Neither of us had ever had our own dog in adulthood. We made several visits to animals shelters, fell in love with a dozen pups. We were always slowed down by the processing fees, forms, etc. One weekend when we were visiting my sister, Christina, she found a lady in the area trying to get rid of some puppies. A lab husky mix. What a great combination! Two of my favorite breeds. We all rode out an unmarked country road to a tiny trailer with a small kennel poking out from the backyard. A woman came walking out the rickety front door, gestured to us, "you here for a dog?" and was halfway to the back yard before she finished the statement. When we reached the kennel I saw the smallest, scraggliest ...

the dogs of luna acres - always ready to go

Our little farm is quite over run with animals, although most of them not the working farm type. The three dogs take turns guarding the place and sleeping on the couch. They all have their flaws and strengths, but not one of them what most would consider "well trained". We love them all the same, we know it our own fault for not working harder for them. We are blessed with space for them to run relatively free on their own. The yard this time of year is littered with deer legs and bones, the occasional head or spinal cord. It's a good life for these dogs.  Trilli and Dakota ready to go Dakota eating the snow Bandit, the oldest pup, is still always ready for a walk, even if he doesn't make it all the way there the view this afternoon  It's funny, even with all the freedom, they are always ready to go for a walk.
