a glimpse of 2017

new beginnings 2016 - The Year of Chaos and Turmoil 2017 - The Year of Healing and Progress I cannot think of a better way to sum up this transition. The new year brought in a new era. In January I moved back into the farmhouse and began building an official relationship with Scott (which includes getting to know his three children, plot twist for those of you who don't know me in real life!) Our friendship had been built on honesty and self reflection, which created a perfect foundation for a relationship. I'm struggling with how much and in what ways to share information about this subject, not wanting to give away every personal detail of my life, yet also longing to express the realness, the deepness, the honesty that exists between us. "Little white lies" and frankly, big fat lies as well, are a natural and accepted part of our society, and we don't want that. But more about that later. official photo February brought an intense new fri...

And you may ask yourself, "Well...How did I get here?"

our castle Well... how did I get here? Over the past year my life has turned completely upside down. I finally gathered the strength to leave an unhealthy relationship after nine years. I moved four times. I lost jobs. I lost friends. I found myself in situations I never imagined could happen to me. I battled crippling anxiety and depression. I cried constantly. But life keeps moving forward, whether we realize it's happening or not, and I have to believe that universe is unfolding as it should. I started a job I actually enjoy, working outside. I made new friends. I found a new place to call home (we also call it #divorcefarm, but more about that later). I'm discovering who I really am and what I believe to be important in life. And I'm excited to share it with you. Stay tuned.

The Adventures of 2015- Part 3: April (the honeymoon)

April Continued... The Honeymoon Roadtrip  For our honeymoon we decided to drive fourteen hours, across five states, over three days. Some might call that crazy. We call it an adventure! Virginia to New Orleans, Louisiana.  We stayed at The Frenchmen Hotel, the cutest little bed and breakfast right in the French Quarter. I wish we could have stayed forever. One of the reasons we chose to make the trip  was to see one of our favorite bands, The Slackers.  It was worth it. The creole cuisine, the constant music and nightlife, the artwork, the people,  the French Market, the Pharmacy Museum, the Audubon Zoo, plus the alcohol in to go cups from every store and restaurant made it a once in a lifetime trip we will never forget.  We broke up the trip by seeing the sights along the way. This beautiful waterfall is part of Rock City,  an incredible garden of plants, rocks, cliffs, and ...

real birthday fun, it wasn't all bad

sisters are foreva I was so focused on losing the rabbits the other day that I didn't share more about the fun parts of the weekend. I failed to point out that yes, my birthday is on February 14, Valentine's Day. It's good and bad. I grew up hearing, "Oh, a Valentine's baby!" every time I had to give that information to someone. When I was younger (think middle school) I was home schooled and obviously didn't have a booming social life. I didn't have my first boyfriend until eighth grade. Back then I always felt my birthday was ruined by my loneliness. Once I reached high school I entered a steady relationship and haven't spent one birthday/valentines single since. Honestly, I could care less about Valentine's, it's my birthday, and that's that. Which is how we all felt hanging out Friday night. My sister's fiance had to work, so we went to his restaurant to eat dinner so she could see him. We love Deacon, he's a great ...

something's different around here...

the first storm of the season  I made a list full of changes to the blogs today. After a lot of consideration, I have imported all of the farm blogs into this one, and changed the name, domain, look and feel of this site to incorporate them both. The truth of the matter is, I can't keep them separate. The farm is our life. They are too connected. I am more drawn to the animals lately than ever before. Inspired by the blog and books of Jon Katz, I have been noticing more about their personalities and habits on a daily basis. Watching them more, paying attention.  I'm excited about this space. Until next time, Angela Kelly

there's a price to pay

not a very flattering hair do. On the drive home from wedding dress shopping tonight I was thinking about my life now-a-days, here with Jonathan. It started with thoughts of my mental state back in the "dark ages", compared to now. Throughout middle school, high school, my brief stint in college, and the few years afterwards, I struggled agonizingly with depression and anxiety. I was very reserved, kept everything bottled up inside, had little to no self confidence, cried and mutilated myself versus confronting people with my words and emotions. It took me years and hitting my personal rock bottom (I believe everybody has their own, and they are all different) to get help. A few years of therapy, some mild antidepressants, and a lot of personal life decisions have led me down a path of calm, love, sometimes anger and fear, but now expressed in healthy ways (like art, or screaming.) Moving back to my parents place in the country was the first big step. It gave us a brea...

what a strange love we found here together

I don't talk about Jonathan very often in this space. It's funny, because he is a major part of nearly every post I write. He is always there, beside me, working, farming, building, driving, stressing and daydreaming. We are a freak of nature among couples, probably among people in general, but hey. We went through countless long nights to get to where we are now. So many lies and fights and tears. Months spent in the arms of others. What makes us unusual is how strong we are now for going through it together. For loving and forgiving and growing up. For making sacrifices and decisions to make our relationship better. Stronger. Now what we have is days beside each other, smiling, happy, loved. I can't remember the last time we fought. When I'm falling down into the pit in my head he pulls me back out. Every single minute of every single day of my life is amazing because I get to share it with my partner in everything, my soul mate.  I love you ...

the getaway part three - hanks

On Tuesday we checked out a local hot spot called Hanks. It appeared to be a quaint country restaurant from the outside but inside the country vibes of natural wood and old tools combined unexpectedly with bright steel planks and cables suspended across the restaurant. It was beautifully decorated, with fast friendly staff, and the food was delicious. Definitely one to check out.     Amazing. Until next time, Angela Kelly

getaway part four - the caves

welcome On our way home we stopped at the Grand Caverns for a quick tour. It was absolutely breathtaking, and a great finale to our trip. My favorite part was the ballroom, where in the 1800's fancy parties would be held deep within the caves. Apparently they have a reenactment every June, that would be so very cool.       they turned all the lights off before revealing this hallway, where we saw this shadowy figure glowing at the end The first picture there is a real photo of the ball taking place in the caverns. They had bands, food, tons of candles, and even little dressing rooms for the ladies. What a sight. they recently discovered another section of the cavern which covers 70% of this map It was a great way to end our vacation. Beautiful and romantic. Until next time, Angela Kelly
