budget bride: decorations

The next project I'm working on for the wedding is table decorations.  I don't want you to see everything yet, but here's a little preview. Being on such a tight budget,  we are using all re-purposed jars and wine bottles for the arrangements.  The hot glue gun has been my very best friend! Most of the flowers, ribbon, and burlap came from the dollar store  and Michael's (don't forget your coupons!)  I do hope to use a bunch of real flowers too.   I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek! Until next time, Angela Kelly

budget bride: invitations

Jonathan and I have been planning our April wedding and unlike the average couple (who apparently spend $20,000 on a wedding!) we don't have much money. Okay, that was a little bit of an understatement; we don't have any money. We are both in job transitions, trying to make ends meet, and a lavish wedding just isn't on the agenda. Luckily for us, we've never cared too much about expensive things anyway.  I plan on doing lots of posts in the next few months about our wedding. Today, I wanted to share my invitations with you, which I just finished yesterday! Many brides spend a fortune on expensive stationary, envelopes, invitations, calligraphers, and more. I prefer the simplicity and heartfelt signature of a handmade invitation. Thankfully the guest list is pretty small, and I only had to make about 50 invitations. I went shopping the weekend after Christmas and got some great deals on supplies.  Stores like Michael's and AC Moore offer printabl...

things you've been missing

the view from the second story we were building onto the cob house I am so behind! The past few weeks have been so hectic, I just haven't had time to catch up. It doesn't help that my laptop will no longer pick up the internet, making it more difficult for me to update conveniently.  I just need to work out a new routine. Anyways, onto some of the things you've been missing! - We spent five days in Kentucky at Disputanta Cob, where we learned how to build a cob house from the ground up. It was an amazing trip, truly life changing for Jonathan and I. We feel so confident in our abilities to provide for our own construction needs now. I will go into more (much, much more) detail about the cob workshop in upcoming posts. - My baby sister, Amy celebrated a birthday. She has always been my best friend in the entire world, and we are closer now than ever before. We had a cookout at her house on her birthday with my parents, then on Saturday we went to dinner at a...

wedding invitation shopping

Jinx and Trilli Last weekend I was supposed to go look at a venue for my friend Savannah's wedding, but it was super cold that day so we just went invitation shopping instead. We always have fun together. First we went to Jo Ann's and then Michael's where we found several cool stamps, some ribbon, invitation paper, a few embellishments and other random things. For dinner the four of us (the girls and Jonathan, I hope he doesn't grow tired of that) went to K&W (a cafeteria style restaurant usually reserved for the elderly or older families with small children) and gorged ourselves. I feel we received quite a few strange glances. We were certainly the only table of twenty-somethings in the whole place. But it was delicious, and we all left with a bag full of to-go boxes. It's like a buffet with leftovers, terrific. It was a simple day, but a blast. I have the best friends. Until next time, Angela and Jonathan

something different - wedding dress shopping

I write so often about the farm, because it is our lives, but I have been leaving out some pretty exciting adventures in other areas of my life lately. Since Jonathan and I became engaged in November we started wedding planning, but not just for our wedding. My sister is planning a wedding in October of this year, and our best friend Savannah is first up to the alter, getting married in June! It has already been so much fun going through this together. We have made three wedding dress shopping trips. The first two were local, David's Bridal, Amhreins, that sort of thing. The third though, was a road trip to Church Street Bridal in Lynchburg, VA which is run by the YWCA. The shop is completely filled with donated dresses from department stores and designers, and all the proceeds go to a good cause (helping battered women and children, etc.) And I haven't even told you the best part, the dresses are CHEAP. They had the largest selection of dresses we have seen, and a whole terr...
