I read an article in the Roanoke Times awhile back titled, "Will it make my life better?" It was about a man who asked himself that question before buying anything, and as a result he is debt free, happy, and has his life to enjoy without stressing about money. Our greatest problem isn't that we don't have enough money, but that we have too many wants. We're spoiled. When we learn to live with the basics and not want for everything we see our lives will improve greatly. I've tried to start asking myself this question all the time before I buy things, because usually the answer is no. I've been working on a budget (for myself and Jonathan) to start the new year.
