puppy play date

Yesterday Trilli got to have a puppy play date with her best friend, Oreo, and a new boyfriend, Yeti. Everyone in our group has a dog or two, so socializing them is essential. With several large breeds covered in our pack, they can be a bit much at first. Oreo (the pit bull) is quick like lighting, nudging the others with her nose and batting her paws. Trilli (husky and lab) loves to play but has the biggest mouth, constantly barking. We're working on that. Yeti is a basset hound and great Pyrenees mix, still growing and just beautiful. He got along with the girls wonderfully, outside taking turns pouncing on each of them. It's great to watch a pack of dogs together, it's so natural for them, their own kind; friends.  Hopefully next time I'll remember to bring my camera! Until next time, Angela Kelly

the pack: a temporary little addition

Trilli didn't want to pose for a picture.  Yesterday morning we woke up to a dusting of snow covering the ground.  Just a little bit, light and beautiful.  Our pack has an extra member for awhile,  my grandmother's Chihuahua Baby.  She is in the hospital after a fall left her bruised and sore,  with underlying problems yet to be determined.  We love her so very much and are sending all our good thoughts  and prayers that she recovers quickly.  Her little Baby is in good hands though, we just love having her.  Baby in her little jacket :)  Trilli is obviously jealous, but adjusting to her presence.  The cats seem disinterested, being twice her size at least!  I've never cared for small dogs much, but she is just such a sweetheart.  Everyone please keep my granny in your thoughts this week!  Until next time, Angela Kelly the pack

of Christmas and New Years Eve - here's to the next chapter

Zae likes our new quilt "Just because something needs to be said, doesn't necessarily mean that it needs to be heard." Trilli was very tuckered out after all the Christmas excitement (also, new couch cover for Christmas) Christmas was wonderful but also very challenging, and I wrote about it but I'm not sure that it needs to be shared. There are words running through my veins that need to spill out, but I am so hesitant to share too much information.. too much truth about my self, my past, my scars. At the same time, there's so much past inside my present ( feist ). Perhaps another day. plant explosion There was delicious food. Gifts. Family. Friends. It was truly a lovely day, until my grandmother's blood pressure dropped causing her to drift in and out of consciousness. Many tears were shed and while my mom and big sis went to the hospital with her the rest of us (my little sister, the guys, and my nieces and nephew) hugged and shared ...

the healing power of puppies

I have been fascinated with therapy dogs for awhile now,  reading articles about dogs comforting the sick, elderly, confused.  Dogs have an amazing connection with humans,  an ability to communicate in a different way, on a different level.  Last night our friend, Zack, came over and Trilli  must have been able to tell that he didn't feel very well. She doesn't usually lay on people she isn't really close to,  but she crawled right over him and rested her head on his leg.  He said that he had felt like someone was sitting on his chest - not referring to the (too-big-to-be) lap dog.  After petting her for several minutes,  while she was sitting still and sweet,  he said he was feeling so much better.  I just love dogs. Until next time, Angela Kelly

a new routine: ballet workout

I have been loving that my new schedule allows me so much more time in the mornings,  I have been taking Trilli for long walks (which she is loving)  and today I started scoping the internet for a new workout to try,  when I stumbled upon this ballerina style workout  that was designed for Victoria Secret models.  It's only ten minutes long, which means no excuses about not having time to work out, and it kicked my butt! I love the ballet style moves, and the fast pace.  Check it out here: Victoria Secret Model Ballet Workout Until next time, Angela Kelly

life with animals- our cats and dogs welcome spring

Bandit catching some sun  The animals are loving this warm sunny weather. Walking around outside is an adventure, watching them run about, mingle with each other, play and climb and chase things. Life without animals would be very boring. the pups hanging out in the yard Trilli (left) and Dakota (right) in the yard Dakota bear is a very handsome dog Do you have any animals that keep your life interesting? moments of light

Trilli likes our new bedspread, too. Today was the first of the year that I could tell the days were getting longer. When we pulled down the driveway to the house after work there was still a bit of light in the air. I filled up a jug of warm water and checked on the rabbits, then the ducks. They seemed to be enjoying the heat wave of 40 degrees this afternoon. Working in town is the worst these few months when we spend all daylight away from this place. Checking the animals by headlamps. Rushing through morning feedings. Knowing that we aren't paying enough attention to them.  Jinx has taken up our chair as his throne. I am so very thankful for those few extra minutes of light.  Until next time, Angela Kelly

Trilli - a mystery

This is a post I wrote a few weeks ago about our dog, Trilli. my beautiful mystery About six months after Jonathan and I got back together we started talking about adopting a puppy. We already had a cat we had adopted as a kitten and raised, he was about 5 months old then. Neither of us had ever had our own dog in adulthood. We made several visits to animals shelters, fell in love with a dozen pups. We were always slowed down by the processing fees, forms, etc. One weekend when we were visiting my sister, Christina, she found a lady in the area trying to get rid of some puppies. A lab husky mix. What a great combination! Two of my favorite breeds. We all rode out an unmarked country road to a tiny trailer with a small kennel poking out from the backyard. A woman came walking out the rickety front door, gestured to us, "you here for a dog?" and was halfway to the back yard before she finished the statement. When we reached the kennel I saw the smallest, scraggliest ...
