my handmade christmas

I always try to make homemade gifts for people at the holidays, partly because it's special and goes with my way of life, but also because I always seem to be broke on the holidays. This year I did several color pencil animal drawings, candy skull style, that I put in cheap dollar store frames and gave as gifts.  I think they turned out pretty nice.       I also made all my cards by hand.  Some were color pencil drawing, other stamps,  and some of these cute little deer.  They were my favorite. mushrooms for christmas

The weekend before Christmas we innoculated some logs we had downed with phoenix oyster mushroom spawn. A dozen or so were off as gifts, but a hefty pile remains for us to start next season. We set up in the greenhouse which was wonderful, warm and dry and not windy. I wish we would have it to use all winter, but we need to get it down soon. It makes a fantastic workspace. A successful day. Until next time, Angela Kelly

christmas part two

penny's christmas tree is overflowing After lunch at home with my family we headed over the mountain to visit Jonathan's parents and family. We are very fortunate to have two families who love us so much. Penny cooked breakfast for dinner instead of a normal feast (although a feast it still was) since we had a big lunch, and missed the usual early morning breakfast tradition of past years (we didn't do it this time since my sister was staying the night.) It was quite delicious and we had so much fun visiting everyone. His sister, Toni and her boyfriend and kids came over. Madi and Timmy are always cute and sweet and amazing. Watching them open the mountain of presents is always something else.  Jonathan and Penny Timothy wanted nothing to do with opening presents. He hid by the door the whole time. the kids mountain of presents I have the best mother in law evaaa :) Matt and Jonathan Until next time, Angela Kelly we wish you a merry

a late christmas greeting

merry christmas sweetheart <3 I have been enjoying the season too much to spend time in front of the computer to share anything with you lately! It has been a wonderful Christmas. My sister, Amy and her fiance Deacon spent Christmas Eve night at our house, we watched movies and she fixed my hair. The next morning we all woke up together and opened presents over coffee. my granny with her new picture from local artist Ann Harrell. she cried when she opened it. daddy with the snazzy new mud Amy gave him Deacon and Amy - Christmas morning pre-makeup, she will surely murder me for this. mom's always the most excited my parents got Jonathan a Doctor Who book which is just phenomenal It was the quietest holiday we've ever had around here. Much of my dad's family couldn't make the drive. My sister was just getting over the flu and Christmas morning her husband was terribly sick, so her and

a cold weekend for logs

the pile of logs we cut brought down today It was a cold weekend, yesterday was stormy from rain to snow. Today was a bit better, scattered showers and flurries but it stayed primarily cloudy and windy. We finished bringing down some logs from the trees we downed about a month ago, we are going to inoculate them tomorrow. It felt good to get out in the cold and break a sweat. It's been awhile. the dogs of luna acres - always ready to go

Our little farm is quite over run with animals, although most of them not the working farm type. The three dogs take turns guarding the place and sleeping on the couch. They all have their flaws and strengths, but not one of them what most would consider "well trained". We love them all the same, we know it our own fault for not working harder for them. We are blessed with space for them to run relatively free on their own. The yard this time of year is littered with deer legs and bones, the occasional head or spinal cord. It's a good life for these dogs.  Trilli and Dakota ready to go Dakota eating the snow Bandit, the oldest pup, is still always ready for a walk, even if he doesn't make it all the way there the view this afternoon  It's funny, even with all the freedom, they are always ready to go for a walk. a few lessons in rabbit husbandry

We now have two years of experience under our belts raising rabbits. We have learned a lot of useful information already, but we are far from experts. That's the thing with farming, with raising animals, you will never be done learning. Bring it on. As of today we have 17 rabbits in our little group, and the more animals you have the more likely you are to have problems. Here are a few of ours: the girls The first problem we had is with the smallest litter we have, which we have had in a large dog crate on the grass. They are starting to get pretty big, and coming of age, they are starting to get a little frisky. This is bad news bears. I was out watching them and saw three boys ganging up on one girl, so in a hurry I fixed up a cage and moved her into it. She was visibly shaken, breathing quickly, her hair a mess with tufts pulled out (that was the first sign I saw that something was going on.) The next d

a winter gift

When we were in and out of the greenhouse during the storm this weekend (trying to keep the ice and snow from crushing it) we were surprised with several clusters of blue oyster mushrooms on one of our few remaining logs. They were a nice little winter gift, I'm glad we caught them when they are still small, we will try to pick them at just the right time. Welcome, winter. It's nice to see you too. the afternoon thaw

melting into a muddy mess blue skies! i actually got a close up of one of our little girls quack quack the creek is a flowing now no makeup farm days Trilli soaking up the sunshine This morning was cold, wet, and frozen, but by this afternoon the sun showed itself, the temperature creeped up a few degrees, and everything melted away quickly. Unfortunately my body didn't get the message, and I was stuck in cuddly inside by the fire mode. I did manage to clean the house a little it, and make some brownies. Also, I have been incredibly crafty this weekend, crocheting up a storm plus throwing together a few Christmas cards. Tomorrow it's back to the grind, another week. I hope one day we can stay here instead. Until next time, Angela Kelly
