may showers

Finally, a post! I have been thinking constantly of ways to encourage myself to put words to paper during the busy busy days of a farmer. Obviously, thinking is about as far as I have gotten. It has been another long week, though thankfully not as hectic as the previous one. We drove home last weekend to visit for my baby sister's birthday, and enjoyed the company of family, as well as way too much good food. Unfortunately I didn't have any money to buy her a gift, but I crafted a few things (which I forgot to photograph, typical.) I did get some of the mini bird cage lanterns, although the quality of the shots leaves much to be desired. I also made four hand sewn coffee bags (with heart tags) and a card. I hope she liked them. Tuesday we went to a market in downtown Richmond, which had the most interesting assortment of customers (from older family types to younger college hipsters.) When we were leaving we realized the tire was flat. Then we realized the 6 wrenches we had were all the wrong size. And so, after spending two hours (and dusk, in a not-so-ideal part of town) working and waiting, we finally made it home after 11. Yesterday was a bit of rest and recovery. We worked in the garden, started building the baby chicks outside home, and cleaned our filthy house. Today Alex and I were left in charge of taking deliveries to Richmond. We had modest success, only getting lost twice (luckily my phone's GPS works.) Tomorrow will likely be a long hard day around the farm, which I am not dreading. I can feel my muscles getting stronger, see my skin getting darker, and am thankful to get my hands dirty. Well now, as a border collie just chased our kitty up a tree, I feel I must go.

Justin and Savannah's Wedding - The Reception

puppy play date

Yesterday Trilli got to have a puppy play date with her best friend, Oreo, and a new boyfriend, Yeti. Everyone in our group has a dog or two, so socializing them is essential. With several large breeds covered in our pack, they can be a bit much at first. Oreo (the pit bull) is quick like lighting, nudging the others with her nose and batting her paws. Trilli (husky and lab) loves to play but has the biggest mouth, constantly barking. We're working on that. Yeti is a basset hound and great Pyrenees mix, still growing and just beautiful. He got along with the girls wonderfully, outside taking turns pouncing on each of them. It's great to watch a pack of dogs together, it's so natural for them, their own kind; friends.  Hopefully next time I'll remember to bring my camera! Until next time, Angela Kelly

the dogs of luna acres - always ready to go

Our little farm is quite over run with animals, although most of them not the working farm type. The three dogs take turns guarding the place and sleeping on the couch. They all have their flaws and strengths, but not one of them what most would consider "well trained". We love them all the same, we know it our own fault for not working harder for them. We are blessed with space for them to run relatively free on their own. The yard this time of year is littered with deer legs and bones, the occasional head or spinal cord. It's a good life for these dogs.  Trilli and Dakota ready to go Dakota eating the snow Bandit, the oldest pup, is still always ready for a walk, even if he doesn't make it all the way there the view this afternoon  It's funny, even with all the freedom, they are always ready to go for a walk.
